The Role of Faith in Intentional Living


In my last post, I shared how I began living a more intentional life. I’m not an expert, but I’ve been through it, and one thing has made all the difference—my faith in Jesus. So how does faith influence an intentional life? Lets talk about it.

Though I grew up in church, I didn’t truly pursue a relationship with Jesus until my late 20s. That relationship changed everything. As I learned to appreciate a slower, more intentional life, I realized that faith is the foundation that holds it all together. Without it (for me), the pieces don’t align.

Faith isn’t just a belief I hold; it’s woven into my daily habits, shaping my purpose and keeping me grounded. What does that look like? Time in the Word, journaling, worship, prayer throughout my day, listening to sermons or podcasts—simple practices that align my heart with God. Faith gives me clarity in decision-making and peace in moments of anxiety.

As a stay-at-home mom, I’m around my kids 24/7. I can try to sneak away for five minutes in the bathroom, but they’ll find me—every time. Ha! But even in those moments, faith reminds me to be present. My kids are learning, growing, and navigating their own little worlds. My son might need me to teach him something ten times before he gets it, and instead of growing frustrated, faith helps me respond with grace. It grounds me, making me a better mother for them—but ultimately, for me.

Faith also shapes my routines and priorities. It helps me filter what truly matters, keeping my focus on my first ministry—my family. But lately, God has been challenging me to be more intentional beyond my home, to pursue deeper friendships and community. I see now how He first worked on my boundaries so I’d be prepared for this next step.

Another reason faith is at the forefront and influences me living an intetional life? The enemy doesn’t play. I’ve become more aware of spiritual warfare, which is why I walk in active faith. I stay on guard, discerning what’s from God and what’s not, so I can shut down anything that doesn’t belong. Some days are hard, and I barely make it through. Other days, I feel unstoppable. Either way, God is always teaching me something. Like Lamentations 3:22-23 says: "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

My faith in Jesus also activates gratitude. Starting my day by thanking God for even one small thing shifts my mindset. It helps me focus not on what I lack, but on all I’ve been given. Over time, this has shaped my heart to embrace a less is more perspective—less of me, more of Him.

Finally, faith reminds me not only of where I’ve been but also of where I’m going and Who has been with me all along. It helps me release control of what I can’t change, trusting that even when things seem unclear, God is still in control. I’ve been through too much to deny His presence in my life. Some will understand; others may criticize. But that’s the beauty of standing firm in faith—when Jesus is first, the opinions of others don’t shake you.

So today, if you’re seeking a more intentional life, and you believe in Jesus, let Him in. Lean into Him. He will guide you, sustain you, and give you clarity for the journey ahead.
