Over the past 7 years, God has revealed to me the true meaning of pure love. Yet, His love has been with me my entire life—my greatest love of all. September was #nicuawarenessmonth & with the commotion of moving and sickness, I never got around to making a video for it.

It’s a story I want to share any chance I get because I believe there is purpose in this season and in Daniel’s life. I believe that woven in every part is Gods mercy, grace and love. A season of our lives that strengthened us when to the world it could seem our life was falling apart.

It wasn’t easy. But this wasn’t a conditional journey. God led the way and we were committed to following Him even if things didn’t go as we hoped. It’s a story that shows the power of prayer, intentionality and focus from our family, friends, strangers and every single nurse, Dr and specialist.

I’m grateful for this season as it encourages me more than anyone else (and I walked it). Grateful for medicine and for technology advancements in the NICU. Especially grateful for the NICU team who were checking in on me during pregnancy, updating me as weeks continued and then being in the room to receive and continue treatment for our boy. They are exceptional people. I think it can be overlooked because not everyone has had to walk through a NICU especially the side of the NICU where babies are fighting for their life. There is a difference and it changes you.

I came across this quote once and it encouraged me.

“Time is not a thief, but a giver of all things” -Christopher Sharp.

He goes on to say,

“Apathy, sloth and indifference are the thieves that loot the chest of wealth that time has given you”

Interesting how when we speak about wealth it’s typically about money and status.

But what about the abundance of moments time gives us that we deposit into our memories or our legacy?

It is a giver. No?

I want to encourage you with this - when someone shares with you that time is a thief and you are in agreement. Check in with yourself. It doesn’t mean they are wrong (they are sharing from a lived experience). Just take note but don’t sit in comfort with that thought because guess what? Time gives you opportunity to change and if you’re in a position as a parent to make a shift - that’s a gift (giver).

I had a great conversation with a lady today and she kept repeating how blessed I am to be a young mom walking with Eli on a sunny day. She worked for much of her kids childhood and had a nanny for them. She didn’t say she wished she would have been home with them. She loved work and needed to work. She said she wished she made more time for the little things in between. But life was “busy” (so she thought) and her kids are grown now.

She said, “it’s as busy as you make it”.

* YOU make it.

I’m so thankful for her honesty and I want to believe she’ll receive the gift that time is still giving her.

I fully understand the anxious and overwhelming thoughts that come from this topic.

I went through a hard but much needed season of isolation. There is no question that time takes away moments. But it did give that moment to us too. So how do we see it? That’s determined by what we do with our time.

It’s being on my phone but stopping what I’m doing because my child runs to dance with me. It’s stopping to find ants in the sand even though my parking meter is about to expire. I don’t feel good when I rush through life because I know I’m missing details and it’s those details that bring me a lot of peace with how I choose to see time.

Friends,
Isolation in the world has felt lonely. But isolation with God has felt fulfilling. I’ve come to understand this and it has been one of the best realizations in my life to date. I haven’t been able to avoid moments of isolation. But I have been able to adjust my perspective when it happens.

When we fully surrender our lives to Jesus, we fully submit to His ways. Sometimes that means people and things are pruned away in our life (temporality or not). With God, it’s always for a reason greater than what we know in the moment. This can feel lonely if we are not living with a purpose driven mindset. It can feel like we’ve been pushed into an empty space.

But the thing is…

With God, the empty space (to us) is a soundproof room (to Him).

He needs us alone so we are not distracted by the world and we hear His voice.

Isolation is not permanent. Though I understand it can feel that way.

But be encouraged. God will always send us on a path to understand why and our answers will flow in at just the right time when we are ready to receive.

He has a plan.

If you feel that God has removed so much from your life. I can tell you from experience, it’s only to make room for the better things He has for you.

Trust His process.

After purchasing the house in VA, I seen Miami as a place to retire with Diego even though I prayed to move back for 4 years. The 5 years we spent away from Miami was in isolation and it stretched us tremendously. The more time that past, the further away that prayer seemed possible. Then in one weekend we put our house up for sale, went under contract and moved to Miami 2 weeks later. Talk about whip lash.

But also…let’s talk about what God did in those 5 years? 😉

Nothing wasted.

I relate so much to this quote. Doesn’t matter what is happening in my life, being out in nature does something to me. It connects me to myself when I feel lost. It reminds me that things take time. To appreciate the slow moments. To sit in silence. To look deeper at what beauty actually is.

Being in nature with my kiddos is a bonus!

At church this morning the worship band sang an Elevation worship song called “Here again”. These are the beginning lyrics…

“Can’t go back to the beginning
Can’t control what tomorrow will bring
But I know here in the middle
Is the place where You promise to be
I’m not enough unless You come
Will You meet me here again”

I’m in a moment where I’m here but I wish I could be somewhere else too. I know this feeling so well having lived away from my family. So I prepared for it. But I was reminded of how many times we wrestle with scenarios or we get in our feelings about missing something, a moment or a conversation.

Today God reminded me that whether I was in Nova Scotia with my family for my dad’s surgery or here in Virginia — the place I need to be is in His presence. I could be there but if I wasn’t spiritually ok, it would be so difficult. I care deeply about how my family is doing and I know exactly what I need to do to sustain my peace as I am away from them. God has shown me this before.

Through prayer, journaling and quiet time in His Word. The only place I will receive any sort of contentment is with Him. He will give me peace. He will bring me comfort.

I’ve been in this space before where a lot of things were out of my control. But God met me there in a special and impactful way.

I hope this encourages someone to invite Him in. In a receiving type of way. Open your eyes and ears to hear His voice and to feel a peace you can’t put words to.

How many times do we go through things in life feeling like we are going through them alone? How many of those times do we fully surrender and let God in? It is a relationship after-all. Like any good relationship, we can ask the other person to meet us.

God wants to meet us right where we are and for that I am thankful!
